Abel Hold began his career as a house decorator. However, he developed a strong line in birds nests and dead game and ended up exhibiting frequently at the Royal Academy.
His paintings, especially of nests and birds eggs, are exquistely executed and clearly reflect his own interest in and observation of nature. Hold was born in Alverthorpe, Yorkshire.
